All About Me

This week Brantley's class has been focusing on "All About Me". They've been learning that they are special and talking about what makes them special. Yesterday, we had to fill out a questionnaire for him to take to school today with a picture of himself. Brantley of course had to choose 3 pictures to take with him. What a big weekend for Brantley. Saturday night, Brantley stayed the night with Grandma and Pop for the first time. He didn't even give me a hug and a kiss when we left! He had a blast. Then, on Sunday we went to a birthday party at Pump it Up. The kids always have a blast....

Yahoo Instant Messenger...Funny story

So, I'm upstairs taking care of some laundry and I hear a funny noise downstairs. I call down to Brantley to find out what is making the noise. He answers but I have no idea what he is talking about. No big deal. I finish with the laundry and go downstairs to find that it's my laptop making the noise. Yahoo Messenger is up and it's the whistle audible that keeps playing, over and over. It would not stop! I have no idea how Brantley did this. Well, then I realize the chat window is open. A friend had sent a message, and much to my surprise, Brantley had been sending audibles to him! After laughing hysterically, I reply to the friend, "You know you have been messaging with Brantley?". His reply, "Good thing I kept it rated G!". Good thing Brantley can't read yet! Gotta watch that kid. :)

First day of pre-k

Well, today was Brantley's first day in pre-kindergarten. I must admit I'm more than apprehensive about this, but he's growing up and he's going to be doing bigger and better things. But, I'm not convinced he liked his new class. I'm going to chalk it up to being the first day and it was probably a little more chaotic than it normally would be. On the bright side, his buddy Carson who hasn't been in their class this summer has moved up with them. I'm sure he, Ben, and Carson will be a threesome once again. He's also been invited to a birthday party at pump-it-up. Should be fun, although this time I think I will stay out of the inflatables! This is a picture from the last time he went to pump it up.

Pre-Kindergarten - here we come!

Today was Brantley's last day in pre-school. Monday he starts his new class with 2 new teachers. He's going to miss his favorite Ms. Jennifer. Here he is sitting in her lap. Don't they all look cute in their tie dye t-shirts. That was one of their summer projects. But, we are on to bigger things. Phonics, math workbooks, and field trips. Can mommy handle it?

Photo Shoot

Monday after work, we had a wedding shower for a girl who is getting married soon. I took Brantley and, of course, he was a ham. One of the girls that I work with does photography on the side and Brantley was more than willing to be her subject. Check out his first photo shoot.

Huntsville, AL

We took off Saturday morning to Huntsville, after Lawson of course ran in a 5K. This one was a first annual run. Lawson is all about being part of a first annual run. The run was part of the opening of the Williamson County Fair. It's the first time the county has had a fair in over fifty years so they are making a big deal about it. Anyway, this is supposed to be about Huntsville, right?

The idea for this weekend actually came up because I got some tickets from work for a Huntsville Stars game. When our office manager told me about it, I thought it would be a good opportunity to visit my friend Michelle who I don't really see very often. So, I told her I would take six tickets.

I guess I never really thought about how close Huntsville is. It actually took less time to get there than it does to get the Cookeville. Michelle was so happy we were coming to visit. We've known each other for probably 20 years but just don't see each other much now that we've both left Cookeville. What's really cool is her husband works for Nasa (actually he's a contract worker but hopefully will be working directly for Nasa soon). He knows all about the shuttle and the space center. Pretty cool having your own personal tour guide.

Brantley was immediatly facinated. He was exclaiming "Cool" and "Wow". I think Lawson had a good time too actually learning some stuff that you don't learn just by reading the display discriptions.

One really cool display was a wooden model of how the lunar rover is designed to fold up. Brantley immediately knew what to do. (I'll try to get a link to the video soon. - video)

So, the whole reason we came to Huntsville was to go to a baseball game. After we left the space center, we went to Rosie's Cantina. I'd highly recommend them - excellent Mexican food. After we left the restaurant, we headed to the stadium and guess what. A thunderstorm cropped up. So, we're thinking maybe it will be just a rain delay. Nope, the game was called due to weather. And, to make it worse the game the next day was sold out so we couldn't use our tickets to go to that game. Kinda ironic that the reason that we planned the weekend was the game and we didn't get to see a game. But, Brantley and Travis did get an excellent bat at the entrance.

The beginning...

Okay, you caught me. We're followers. We decided to start a blog for the Franklin Freemans. It seems like a good way to chronicle Brantley growing up. So, we'll see how long I can keep it up. This weekend we are going to Huntsville. Brantley is extremely excited about going to the space and rocket center. So, the phrase "Houston, we have lift off" seems appropriate here.

Birthday

Okay, I know I didn't start the blog until the fifth of August, but this warrants a back in time post. It was in the same week anyway. This year, I turned thirty. I have left the twenty-somethings and now I'm supposed to grow up. Well, this year Lawson surprised me with his gift. On Tuesday, I received a package from ProFlowers, Lawson's preferred flower provider. I figured it was roses, but to my surprise it was peruvian lillies(on the right). They looked pretty sad actually, but once they soaked up the water they were beautiful. So, Wednesday Lawson calls and asks if I received any more packages. No, why would I. Later on he calls again. Jeez. So I go up to the front desk and there is another box from ProFlowers. This one was a mix of yellow asiatic lillies and blue iris. Actually, I don't know why they call them blue, they are really purple. Everyone around me is thinking why is she getting more flowers. So then Lawson says since he isn't any good at picking out gifts, he was just going to send me flowers all week. So on Thursday, the third (and last) package arrived. I guess there were three because I'm now three decades old. I opened it up expecting roses again. But no, Gerbera Daisies. A very nice change from roses. They are so pretty. So, now my cube has turned into a florist. All I need is a sign.
